Soldiers Homeward Bound

Sweet are the sounds that fall on our ears.
We're homeward bound, homeward bound,
For Freedom we've fought for many long years,
We're homeward bound, homeward bound,
Joyfully now to our homes we'll return,
Thoughts of our loved ones our bosoms will burn,
Short is the time we here shall sojourn,
We're homeward bound, homeward bound.

With victory crowned bright laurels we'll bring,
We're homeward bound, homeward bound,
Liberty's songs, triumphant we'll sing,
We're homeward bound, homeward bound.
Victorious we've marched o'er treason's domain,
Oft' have sighed over graves of our slain,
Comrades who ne'er will be greeted again
We're homeward bound, homeward bound.

Treason no more will dare raise its head,
We're homeward bound, homeward bound,
Where Freemen have fought and heroes bled,
We're homeward bound, homeward bound.
All over our land our proud Flag doth wave,
Brave men have died the Union to save,
Land of the free and home of the brave,
We're homeward bound, homeward bound.

In the fullness of joy to the North land we come,
We're homeward bound, homeward bound.
The Boys in Blue are all coming home,
We're homeward bound, homeward bound.
The prison doors open brave men to release,
The groans of wounded and dying will cease,
That gladdening sound is the sweet song of Peace,
We're homeward bound, homeward bound.

Sweet home and its comforts we long to enjoy,
We're homeward bound, homeward bound,
The mother will welcome her long absent boy,
We're homeward bound, homeward bound,
Brother and sister a brother will greet,
Long parted lovers in ecstasies meet,
Sweet home from long absence will be doubly sweet,
We're homeward bound, homeward bound.

The husband returns to his children and wife,
We're homeward bound, homeward bound,
That day will be happy, the happiest of life,
We're homeward bound, homeward bound,
Long may sweet peace pursue its mild reign,
Nevermore treason curse Freedom's domain,
When Freedom's defenders return home again,
We're homeward bound, homeward bound.

Thanks to the God of high Heaven we give,
We're homeward bound, homeward bound,
Long may our country and Liberty live,
We're homeward bound, homeward bound,
No branches are cut from the Liberty Tree,
Our Nation still lives a bright future to see,
Rebellion is dead and our Country is free,
We're homeward bound, homeward bound.
